BBG is the longest-running independent gym in Los Angeles; perhaps the 2nd longest in history (Vince's Gym ran for 49 years. Erik actually worked out at Vince's Gym in the early 80's.)
Erik Flowers and Jackie Joniec have been co-owners for over a decade, guiding BBG to its iconic place in L.A. Gym history. Erik and Jackie are also related: nephew/aunt.
BBG is a neighborhood gym and has never had a sales staff. Along with its no-attitude vibe, BBG is a classic workout gym with the addition of unique state-of-the-industry exercise programming.

Jackie Joniec: Came from Detroit, MI, by way of Las Vegas, where she was a professional caterer and office manager for a publishing company. She lives in Atwater Village and has two daughters. (Jackie is Erik's aunt.) Erik Flowers: Originally from Dearborn, MI, then lived in Las Vegas where he worked for two Governors. Erik has been a fitness professional for 30+ years. He has appeared on CNN, Entertainment Tonight, MTV, Good Day L.A., Cosmopolitan magazine, and numerous national radio shows. He also trains celebrities and has taught boxing to orphans in India and to a blind man. Erik is married and has a daughter and son. He is the author of three books and has created two fitness products (ElliptiSize and Mertz Ball). |
